REIMAGINING THE BRITISH NATIONAL ANTHEM

To celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III

6 Apr 2023

Ahead of the Coronation on Saturday 6th May 2023, we are proud to present our version of The British National Anthem, arranged by the talented composer Emily Lim.

We are happy to have created multiple versions of the arrangement, including orchestra-focused versions, featured soloists, and a historic version with God Save the Queen lyrics.

The tracks include live strings, brass, choir and soloists and were recorded between Poland and Surbiton. Our Production team worked closely with the musicians and composers to create a triumphant and patriotic rendition of this iconic piece.

We enrolled two very special singers in the recording, West One Music Group’s Joelle Davis and Elizabeth Bird, who are both artists in their own right. Elizabeth is part of the BBC Symphony Chorus, which perform at the BBC Proms and Joelle has a degree in Music and a couple of post-grads in vocal studies from both Trinity College of Music and The Royal Northern College of Music, she also worked as a Soprano for various companies including English Touring Opera and Oratorio.

HISTORY OF THE TRACK

The British National Anthem in its present form has dated back to the eighteenth century, were as its tune and words may date back as far as the seventeenth century.

The patriotic song ‘God Save The King’, was publicly performed for the first time in London in 1745. However, this only came to be known as the National Anthem at the beginning of the nineteenth century.

Interestingly there are no authorised versions of the National Anthem because the words are a matter of tradition and additional verses have been added over the years but these are rarely used.  The first verse is usually the only verse sung on official occasions.
