Tell us a bit about your journey into the music industry?
I was lucky to attend a school in Sweden that was heavily focused on music, so I was encouraged to play an instrument from an early age. I took to piano and guitar and absolutely loved it. In my late teenage years I started a rock band and also got interested in guitar repairs. I continued to study guitar craft at the Musicians Institute in Los Angeles, and ended up getting a job in Melbourne, Australia building guitars shortly after graduating. I thrived in the creative process of creating an instrument and it was such a pivotal part of my life.
I returned to Los Angeles to attend UCLA and their Music Business program. After learning more about the sync licensing world I got really interested in pursuing a career in this field, and amazingly enough I ended up at West One!
Tell us a bit about your role at West One Music Group and how it has developed?
I am a Music Licensing Manager at West One Music in Los Angeles. I work mostly with music supervisors in film, television and trailers, which is super fun and exciting! It’s great to work with these talented people and be able to be a part of their search for the perfect soundtrack.
A big part of my job is to meet with my clients, which I really miss in these crazy times! I can’t wait to get together with the music supervisor community again.
What advice do you have for anyone starting out in the industry?
As cheesy as it sounds, I think it’s so important to just believe in yourself and what you can do. Know your strengths and let people know what you’re good at! And don’t be afraid to keep learning throughout your career!
What is your favourite album on the West One Music catalogue?
Oh wow, that’s a tough one! There’s a lot of goodies in the catalog, but some that I keep going back to are Chichadelica, Live It Up, Chilled Hip Hop, Dirty Talk and Brave!
