How to Layout Your Living Room: Tips and Insights

In a previous post, I shared about my home's "Big Stomach King" TV cabinet, and I'm thrilled with the love you've shown for my living room. I've noticed a lot of questions in the comments, so I thought I'd reorganize them and offer some unified answers.

🌈 Living Room Dimensions:

Our living room is 3.4 meters in net width, with the TV background wall measuring 2.86 meters. It's an open concept with the dining area (forming an LDK), which makes the living room appear more spacious when viewed from the dining angle.

🌈 How is the Living Room Arranged?

We've gone for a standard narrow three-seater leather sofa, a single recliner, and a small round side table. The living room also features a movable square coffee table and a wall-to-wall TV cabinet. The furniture is chosen for its compact size and flexibility, making the space appear larger.

🌈 Just Sheer Curtains in the Living Room? Is There a Balcony Outside?

Yes, there's a balcony outside. Although we've enclosed the balcony, we need to wait for the property title before removing the living room's sliding doors. Hence, for now, a sheer curtain is used for decoration and some privacy.

🌈 What Color are the Floor Tiles?

The floor tiles are a soft, light beige, originally fitted, measuring 80x80 cm with a semi-gloss finish. The brand is not specified. Despite liking my home's tiles, I personally find them less than ideal. To enhance the look, I've added a 160x230 cm rug.

🌈 Is the TV Cabinet Custom-made or Pre-made?

Our TV cabinet is custom-made, spanning the full wall at 2.6 meters wide. It's cleverly designed to accommodate a curtain box with a 200mm gap from the wall, useful for storing slim, long items like a ladder. The cabinet's total height is around 2.45 meters, reaching up to the pre-fitted ceiling.

🌈 How is the TV Cabinet Divided?

The top section has closed doors, the middle open shelves and space for the TV, and the bottom flap doors. The rough proportion is: Top: Middle: Bottom = 3:4:1. A long cabinet door on the side makes the unit look seamless and more integrated. The back panel of the middle section is installed forward, so the TV looks like it's mounted on the wall, preventing a recessed appearance.

🌈 TV Size:

We have a 60-inch TV.

🌈 Ceiling Light Considerations:

The ceiling is originally fitted, with a 400mm wide drop ceiling circling the living room. After fitting the TV cabinet to the top, about 100mm of the edge is left. The original light strips and spotlights are integrated into the drop ceiling. We retained the spotlights over the sofa side but covered the ones near the TV cabinet. The main light is a unique, chic Lu Family's Nordic-style crystal molecular light made of all-copper material, adding a touch of elegance to the living room. It's both beautiful when lit and unlit. For our space, a 12-head light is sufficiently bright.
