Maximizing Living Room and Balcony Space: A Transformation Journey

In a previous post, I shared how I utilized the vertical space in my living room. At that time, the sliding doors were yet to be remodeled, and the projector screen was just hung on the living room curtain rod using S-hooks.

A Tip for Small Spaces

For those living in smaller apartments, a tiny balcony often becomes a dumping ground for miscellaneous items, turning into an unhygienic spot. Why not consider merging the living room and balcony, creating an illusion of a larger living area?

The Details of the Transformation

• Replacing the Glass Door: We replaced the original glass door with a sleek, modern sliding door from Delux. This allows us to slide the door to either side, freeing up more space and enhancing the overall openness of the home. The ultra-thin frame and no-door-casing design create a simple and expansive visual effect, which was exactly what I wanted.
• Enhanced Mobility: Post-renovation, there's a newfound convenience. Earlier, using the elliptical machine was cramped, but now, the shared space between the balcony and the living room offers unrestricted movement, even allowing me to watch TV while exercising.
• Home Theater Upgrade: By hanging the projector screen on a joystick-controlled clothes rack, I’ve managed to set up a mini home theater. The screen, fixed with S-hooks, can be easily adjusted with the rod. When not in use, it can be tucked away without hindering the natural light in the living room.

1. Frame of the Sliding Door: The frame significantly impacts the sense of space. The previous aluminum window frame made the ceiling appear lower and felt oppressive. The new thin frame enhances the vertical space significantly.
2. Glass Transparency: For those who prioritize natural light, opt for ultra-clear glass, which significantly improves the lighting.
3. Ease of Sliding: This is crucial, especially if the door will be used frequently. The sliding should be smooth and the experience comfortable.

The Final Touch

Despite the changes, the balcony retains its charm, being a versatile space for both exercising and drying clothes. The sliding doors in my home operate smoothly, easy enough for a child to use without the fear of slamming into the wall.
